How to Be a Good Plant Parent was developed as part of a workshop designed to address loneliness among young adults living in single-person households.
The project explored how technology could support more engaging relationships between people and plants. Using Arduino, I created an interactive device that enables a plant to communicate its needs by expressing when it requires water. Rather than relying solely on human observation, the system gives the plant a simple "voice," encouraging caretakers to become more attentive and responsive plant parents.
Beyond the technical prototype, the workshop also functioned as a social gathering where participants shared experiences, tips, and personal stories about caring for plants. Through these conversations, the project highlighted how plant care can foster both a sense of responsibility and meaningful connections between people, transforming a solitary activity into a shared experience.
