“Ever since I started exploring immersive experiences, I’ve been fascinated by how XR can transport people to entirely different worlds. As a developer and a creator, I wanted to create something that not only captures a place but also evokes emotions—nostalgia, wonder, and presence. Mongolia, with its vast landscapes and remote location, felt like the perfect place to experiment. By capturing this unique environment, I wanted to allow people from different times and places to experience Mongolia in a way that would otherwise be impossible. This project began as a way to blend technology and emotion, exploring how immersive 3D video can make people feel truly present in a distant environment, even if they could never physically visit it.
Solo Project
To test the immersive impact of this project, I had nine participants watch the video at three different locations and times. After experiencing the content, they shared their thoughts in an open discussion.
Most of the participants had never been to Mongolia, but many remarked that they felt as if they had just visited. Some were amazed at how certain elements appeared so vividly three-dimensional, making the experience feel incredibly realistic.
However, some challenges were noted. Viewers who wore glasses or had poor eyesight found it difficult to focus properly, sometimes seeing blurry or overlapping images. Additionally, some participants suggested adding walking features or expanding the video to a 360-degree interactive experience to enhance immersion.
Memory & Preservation
Inspired by how 3D technology helps in recalling past memories, I initiated another project—recording closing local pub in Mangwon-dong and sharing the footage with loyal customers and shop owners. The recording phase has been completed, and now I aim to explore how this immersive experience influences their emotions and memories.
